Joe Sobel

My current practice in photography ranges from representation to its material surface. How viewers conceive images and questioning their own judgment to what a photograph is are my underlying motivations.

I invited individuals into my studio, some classmates, employees of the institution and family members of those employees. There were simple directions such as removing the shirt and turning around while I photographed. Although the image appears to be close, it was shot on a 80mm lens that is quite far away. The information that is given to the viewer is only skin deep, so-to-speak.
