Maya Smira

In my art I use photography, video, installation, performance & objects, in order to explore global and interpersonal issues. Coming from Israel, I’m interested in land changes, conflicts, geographic, social and psychological processes. As a world traveller I’m fascinated by everything new and different, cultures, religions, and various lifestyles. My work incorporate idea based compositions, along with formal elements, new technologies, philosophies, or humor. My portfolio has multiple different facets, so each project can represent a new aspect of interest.

I’m intrigued by the ways reality and art are represented in various mediums. I like to explore the relations between different mediums, such as video and photography and the fine line between them, created by the time element. My photography is partially staged partly documenting the existing. Coming from a war zone I sometimes enjoy challenging issues of borders, and living under state of emergency. At other projects I focus on different aspects of technology, exploring massive construction/destruction and military, industrial or technological processes.
